I tried running this and nothing happened. I also tried to force quite the syncservicesagent and it kept restarting. I do not have Outlook so do not know how to disable. Then just drop the SyncServicesAgent file back into the Office folder and it will immediately launch. When the AutoUpdater appears, do nothing with it. Close out of it.
Restart your computer in the safe mode. This is done by holding down the shift key as the computer is re-booting. Hold it down until your desktop comes back up. This disables all of the SyncServices crap. Under Help, choose Check for Updates. This will launch your updater. NOW, you will be able to not only download but actually install those updates! After your update has installed, click the Close button and the program will check and see if there are other updates. If so, update them now. Once you are sure you got all the updates available, restart your computer as you normally would.
This will allow your syncing to resume. Please get this? Angela, you are wonderful. I had tried all other suggestions, but restarting in safe mode actually worked. Thanks for solving this totally aggravating problem. While all the suggestions might work, they all sound too scary for me to change here, drag there, copy here, etc…. With patience in reading and scrolling down the long messages, finally I found the most elegant and workable way from Angela Riddel!!!
If I had allowed my department to release an upgrade that inflicted this much — or any frustration on the client I would probably lose my job. I found a simpler solution than re-installing Office. Kept quitting it via activity monitor and it kept restarting. I moved syncservices agent to desktop, then quit it as normal via activity monitor.
It quit and stayed quit. Or you could just read the knowledge-base article: I installed everything fine month ago, and all works fine except the error message sync services keeps popping up and I cannot find where to turn this program off. The error message is annoying, but more annoying is that it freezes activity on my mac while it generates the message. I can anticipate the error popup when my mouse stops moving….
This caused the SyncServicesAgent to restart as it does when you kill it through the Activity Monitor but the Office Installer is happy now and can proceed with the installation. Microsoft sucks, even on Mac. I installed Mountain Lion this morning and have lost the ability to open Outlook I have some of the tips above but the issue of opening the Terminal is impossible.. Lion has turned the terminal into tiny tiny rows and rows of info but I am unable to find the above suggested sync service apps..

Activity monitor, no Logout-Shift key, no What worked was shut down, shift key during boot-up for, started installation over and all was well, no sync services catch I am going to kill Microsoft, what happened to quality control… add to that you can not synch with iphones, Microsoft and their published excuse is just ridiculous. This rebuild worked for me after trying many, many other approaches. I only get the message: Hi Tom Are you still having trouble installing Office? I would not suggest removing the SyncServicesAgent with the rm -rf command.

Easy way for a successful install is to follow directions here: Addendum to my comment above: Likewise, you;ll see the process pop back to life when you issue the load command again.
