In the Flesh looks different from the Basic Bitch palette because it has more classic nude shades of light tan and pink, and less brown and burgundy hues.
That's not to say it will only look great on people with light skin tones. It seems like a true basic palette as opposed to the Basic Bitch, which seems like level-two colors for people who are creative with eye shadow. We haven't tried the neutral shades ourselves yet, but luckily a few makeup artists have swatched them. A variation of finishes, like matte, satin, and metallic, keeps things multidimensional, so you can be sure each finished product is never plain.
There's really no parameters when it comes to the smoky eye — it can be done with bright or brooding shades, but for the sake of fall, we prefer a dark set. Each pencil features a blending brush for smoky smudging, making the technique that much easier to throw on when boyfriend starts to get antsy.
If you match your eye makeup and PSL order, are you still considered basic? Burberry's fall in a compact includes four incredibly pigmented shades, from moss green to leafy gold, so you can spice up more than coffee this season. The Tartlette palette's limited edition sequel set features twelve smoldering hues for fall. Equipped with nine matte and three luster finishes, each row progresses from lighter to darker shades, so it's ideal for the eyeshadow novice dabbling in different styles.
Start off simple with a daytime smoke, using Charmer as a base, Jetsetter at the crease, and Rocker at the outer lid. Once you feel comfortable enough to go bold after-hours, experiment with Rebel's chocolate hue and work your way up to Smokeshow. Naturally, we associate a smoky eye with shadowed hues — so if you're sticking to the technique's linear definition, MAC's cool-toned palette is key. Offering 15 highly pigmented powders that can be applied wet or dry depending on your preference of intensity, you have the option of smoking out burgundy hues with a taupe base shade, or experimenting with a reverse smoky by taking the palette's chocolate hue and working from the tear duct towards the mid crease.
On one end you'll find a cream shadow, and on the other a coordinating highlighter that allows you to crease and expand the shadow for a pro-style smoke, even with limited skill.
